In need of transportation? Well, the 22-year-old Irishman Bertram Allen may be able to give you a hand with that.
Over the span of his career, Allen has won a total seven cars at the Swedish International Horse Show, securing his most recent addition with a victory in the CSI4* Grand Prix on Sunday, December 3, 2017, in Stockholm, Sweden. This also doubled as his tenth car won overall.
Allen competed for top honors in the afternoon class alongside 18 hopeful horse and rider combinations. The lump share of 232,000 kr in prize money was up for grabs as well as a brand new Volkswagen Tiguan. Allen secured the above with a leading performance aboard the 11-year-old BWP gelding Gin Chin van het Lindenhof (Chin Chin x Calido I x Vanam Int L Ameloot).
“This is a fantastic show. I have won six cars in total the past two years, and now the seventh. My horse jumped amazing today,” said Allen, who had some nervous minutes watching last to go Peder Fredricson.
“I knew Peder could be really fast, so I tried to give it [my] all. I really wanted to win today in front of this audience. This is a unique place to compete at,” noted Allen.
As one of only five partnerships to proceed to the jump-off, Allen and Gin Chin crossed the timers in 42.63s to secure the win, leaving a comfortable margin between themselves and 2nd place finishers Malin Baryard-Johnsson of Sweden and H&M Indiana.
“[H&M Indiana] is not so fast, yet, but I knew I could be clear with her. She is a fantastic horse, half sibling with H&M All In. She has a lot of capacity,” says Johnsson on the nine-year-old mare. Johnsson is also a proud sports director of Sweden International Horse Show.”
Sweden’s Peder Fredricson and partner H&M All In had a winning time of 42.16s, though a lowered fence set them back four points to end in 3rd.
“I knew Bertram was very fast, so I cut one stride between fence one and two and that was ok. I had a bad turn to the oxer with the water, and had one down after that. If you want to win, you also have to be prepared to loose,” says Fredricson. “I’m very happy with my 3rd place! There is a lot of prize money and a car in this class, but first of all you want to give the audience a great show. All along the line there has been a fantastic atmosphere during the competitions here in Stockholm.”
