Chloe Reid’s Codarco Passes Away

Chloe Reid & Codarco

U.S. show jumper Chloe Reid announced via her official Instagram account, the passing of her 11-year-old Irish Sport Horse stallion, Codarco (Darco x Orame) on Tuesday, February 6, 2018:

“Dear Cody,

The day I first sat on you was the worst trial I have ever had. I was so incredibly nervous and intimidated by your power that I couldn’t find a distance. I will never forget how we trotted into the combination and crashed out through the oxer, yet you continued to keep jumping and safely carry me around. While I’ve had numerous riders tell me over the years that they tried and passed on the opportunity to purchase you, I will feel forever fortunate that you choose me to be your rider. Even though you could have had way more success with any of the more experienced riders, I was the lucky one who got to take you home.

Thank you for being my partner of a lifetime.

You are leaving so many people heartbroken and one little girl who will never forget you.

Rest easy my fluffy minion
01.01.2007 – 02.06.2018

Please respect his honor and my team to gather all the answers of why we lost him so soon.”

Reid and Codarco have shared many impressive wins together since their partnership began in March 2015 including multiple successful appearances for Team USA.

The pair most recently finished third in last year’s CSIO5* Grand Prix of Falsterbo, where they also produced a double clear effort for the United States in the same week’s Nations Cup event. More senior team championship competitions followed in 2017 with multiple clear rounds in Nations Cups, among them, the all-female victory in Sopot and second place finish at the CSIO4* Nations Cup in Wellington.

The sport of show jumping will sorely miss the the sight of these two young talents together in the arena. Our deepest condolences to Chloe Reid and her team for their loss.
