Marc Houtzager Wins €62,000 VDL Groep Prize at Indoor Brabant

Holland’s Marc Houtzager won the €62,000 VDL Groep Prize on Friday, March 10, 2017 at Indoor Brabant CSI5* in the Netherlands.

It was a 1.55m class with jump-off which saw a field of 44 starters. A large field of 18 would advance into the shortened course, and seven would finish with a double clear score.

Houtzager rode the 10-year-old KWPN gelding Sterrehof’s Calimero (Quidam de Revel X Achill) in the fastest time of 36.17 seconds.

Home riders dominated the class, with Houtzager’s compatriot Jur Vrieling filling the runner-up place aboard the 11-year-old BWP stallion VDL Glasgow v. Merelsnest (Nabab de Reve X Darco) in 36.61 seconds.

Germany’s Marcus Ehning finished in 3rd place riding the 11-year-old BWP gelding Gin Chin van het Lindenhof (Chin Chin X Calido I) in 38.54 seconds.

France’s Penelope Leprevost finished in 4th place riding the 12-year-old SBS stallion Vagabond de la Pomme (Vigo D Arsouilles Stx X For Pleasure) in 39.55 seconds while 5th place went to Holland’s Maikel van der Vleuten and the 9-year-old BWP mare VDL Groep Idi Utopia (Qusimodo Z X Darco) in 41.77 seconds.
