Since first competing on the rated circuit in July 2016, 22-year-old Chandler Meadows of the United States picked up back to back career firsts at the Last Vegas National Horse Show CSI4*-W.
The event, hosted in Las Vegas, Nevada, saw Meadows secure her first top ten placing in a CSI4* in the $51,800 Markel Insurance 1.40m Grand Prix Series Final on November 15, 2017.
Aboard the nine-year-old KWPN gelding Damian (Vigaro x Phin Phin), Meadows finished 2nd to fellow countryman Richard Spooner in the two-round competition that saw 24 entries.
“This series has been a building block for me this year. Damian is a bit younger and I’m still a bit inexperienced,” says Meadows. “This has helped me build a solid foundation while competing through difficult tracks over fences that are not too big.”
Before joining forces with Meadows at the beginning of the year, Damian previously competed with Brazil’s Katty King, Rodrigo Pessoa, Carlos Eduardo Mota Ribas, and Russia’s Neriska Prinsloo.
“Damian is a true competitor,” says Meadows. “He has a lot of personality and when he’s not in the ring, he wants to be in the ring.”
Two days after her 2nd place finish, Meadows rode to her first rated win in the $25,000 Interactive Mortgage U25 Developing Riding Series Final.
Back in the ring with Damian, the 22-year-old set an unbeatable jump-off time of 30.049s to best a field of 16.
“I got Damian at the beginning of this year and started out showing him in the High Amateur-Owner Jumpers,” says Meadows. “Then I stepped up into the Markel Grand Prix and U25 classes. I’ve just started showing him in the FEI Classes and I can’t wait to see what the future holds.”
