he Halla Challenge Trophy is awarded every year in Aachen for the owner of the most successful horse in the classical jumping competitions of the event presented by Mr. Hans Günter Winkler. This year, that horse was Haras des Coudrettes Orient Express. Finishing third is yesterday’s 2013 Rolex Grand Prix of Aachen, Orient Express has certainly come through to perform incredibly through out this year, having won the Longines Grand Prix of La Baule only weeks ago.
Earning a total of 26 points under Frenchman and HDC’s first rider, the 11 year old stallion jumped well through out the week. Runner up was awarded to Janika Sprunger’s gelding Palloubet d’Hallong owned by Georg Kähny. Third was a three way tie between Ireland’s dark bay stallion Balloon owned and ridden by Shane Breen, Cornet d’Amour owned by Stephex Stables & Double H Farm ridden by Daniel Deusser, and Gerco Schröder’s London owned by Silest B.V.
The Prize of the Federal Minister of the Interior – Special trophy is awarded to the best placed jumping rider of the entire show according to the point system presented by the Federal Minister of the Interior Dr. Hans-Peter Friedrich. Four-time Olympic medallist and six-time European Champion Ludger Beerbaum was awarded as this year’s best Rider of the Aachen event.
With a strong lead, Daniel Deusser and Shane Breen had to share second place as they both earned a total of twenty-nine points through out the week. Following suit, two-time Olympic silver medallist Gerco Schroder landed in fourth while World number one landed in fifth best position.
