Eduardo Menezes of Brazil recently celebrated the arrival of his second child, and on Friday, October 22, 2016, he had more reason to celebrate when he won the $36,500 Del Mar Charity CSI3*-W at the Del Mar International Horse Show.

Menezes was fastest in the 1.45m competition against the clock, riding against 24 others in a class that saw just six clears. Aboard Caruschka, a 12-year-old Oldenburg mare (Caspar x Continue), his winning time of 65.47 seconds was enough to hold the lead against the USA’s Michelle Parker, who finished 2nd in 65.66 seconds with the 9-year-old KWPN gelding Cupilor.

Nayel Nassar of Egypt with Acita, Chris Pratt of Canada with Concorde, and Sayre Happy of the USA with Flip rounded out the top six.

The USA’s Georgina Bloomberg and Caleno had the winning time, but one rail down left them in 7th place.

Run alongside the Shelter to Soldier’s benefit, this speed class was a chance for riders to pick up FEI ranking points while resting their grand prix horses in preparation for Saturday evening’s $100,000 Longines FEI World Cup Jumping Del Mar CSI3*-W. That class will take place at 8:00pm local time, and can be watched live with a subscription on feitv.org.
