Two of our sport’s best can be found on the shortlist for the Reem Acra Best Athlete of the Year Award by the Federation Equestrian Internationale; the Netherland’s Jeroen Dubbeldam and Germany’s Daniel Deusser. In September, Dubbeldam was crowned double World Champion in Normandy while also winning the Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup Finals in Barcelona, Spain with Team Netherlands the following month. Daniel Deusser won the World Cup Final in Lyon in April as well as the German Championships for the second year in a row.

The Reem Acra Best Athlete category awards the athletes who have demonstrated exceptional equestrian skills, and over the last twelve months have taken the sport to a new level. The press release from FEI states the following in regards to the two showjumping nominees;

“Starting off his year with a win in the Longines FEI World Cup™ Jumping Final, Daniel proved this was a sign of things to come. With a 6th place finish in the Alltech FEI World Equestrian™ Games 2014 and currently holding a place in the top 10 of the Longines Rankings was certainly a year to remember.”

“With an impressive track record at top level games and championships, 2014 proved no exception for Jeroen who followed up his individual Olympic and team gold at the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games 2014. Since Normandy, he has gone on to help the Netherlands clinch the top spot at the Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup™ Final.”
