Jur Vrieling gifted his Olympic silver medal to the Van de Lageweg-family yesterday while attending this week’s VDL stallion show in Bears, Holland. The family who runs the VDL Stud, were overjoyed and taken back to receive the amazing gift from one of the four Olympic Silver medalists for the Netherlands in London’s Olympic Games last summer.

Wiepke van de Lageweg is both the breeder and owner of Vrieling’s Olympic stallion VDL Bubalu. Jur and Bubalu have been partnered together since May of 2010, where they competed together for the first time at the CSI3* event in Eindhoeven, Holland. The soft-spoken Dutchman and his 13 year old stallion have been a very impressive presence on the international stage, competing in the Nations Cup events for the Netherlands last year in Rome, Rotterdam, Dublin and Spruce Meadows.

The charming Dutch rider took the opportunity yesterday to express his appreciation with beautiful words to his supportive owners,  handing over the Olympic medal with heartfelt gratitude. The rarely speechless Of Lageweg was visibly moved. “We have been several times seen a horse from us an Olympic medal, but they always ended with the riders. Very nice Jur that this medal has given us, it means a lot to us! ” said Wiepke after the presentation.
