The USA’s McLain Ward began the final day of competition at CHIO Aachen with a victory, riding HH Carlos Z to first place in the morning’s SAP Prize.

The Sunday, July 23, 2017 class in Aachen, Germany, was a prelude to the big competition immediately following: the Rolex Grand Slam of Show Jumping Grand Prix of Aachen.

Before that got underway, Ward tacked up his speed specialist, the 15-year-old Zangersheide gelding (Chellano Z x Voltaire) that is owned by Double H Farm. Thirty-seven riders entered their second horses in the single round class, which used a track set up around the fences already in place for the Rolex Grand Prix of Aachen.

Ward went early on in the class, clocked in at 60.21 seconds, and held that lead throughout the order. He beat Germany’s Felix Hassmann and SL Brazondo were 2nd, and Samuel Parot of Chile came in 3rd aboard Atlantis.
