Switzerland’s Pius Schwizer won the CHF 50,500 Prize of the Grand Hotel Les Trois Rois on Saturday, January 14 at CSI5* Basel in Switzerland, ahead of the final day of competition. Schwizer has had a good week on home turf at Basel, scoring a total of two wins and two second places thus far.

Twenty-two out of 51 starters jumped clear to advance into the shortened course for the jump-off of the Prize of the Grand Hotel Les Trois Rois, a 1.50m class with what turned out to be a very big jumpoff. Nine Swiss riders lined up among that jumpoff roster.

Schwizer rode the 10-year-old OS Gelding Balou Rubin R (Balou du Rouet X Coleur-Rubin), finishing in 44.54 seconds to earn 1st place.

Belgium’s Niels Bruynseels aboard the 11-year-old SBS mare Angel van T Hof (Chin Chin X Nabab de Reve) tried to beat the Swiss rider, but they had to settle for the runner up spot with a slightly slower time of 44.92 seconds.

Werner Muff of Switzerland finished in 3rd place riding the 12-year-old BWP mare HH Fleur (Darco X Bon Ami) in 45.24 seconds.

Spain’s Pilar Lucrecia Cordón and the 11-year-old BWP mare Gribouille du Lys (Quaprice Bois Margot X Venu du Theil) finished in 4th place in 46.06 seconds while 5th went to Austria’s Max Kühner aboard the 12-year-old DSP gelding Cornet Kalua (Cornet Obolensky X Platin) in 46.60 seconds.

CSI5* Basel concludes on Sunday with the Longines Grand Prix of Basel.
