On a proposal from the Commission of the Swiss Federation of Equestrian Sports FSSE, the Swiss Olympic selection commissions has selected the team show jumping riders for the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games in Brazil. The traveling reserve was not specified among this list:
Romain Duguet with the 12-year-old Selle Francis mare Quorida de Treho (Kannan x Tolbiac Des Forets) that is owned by Christiana Duguet
Paul Estermann with the 15-year-old Irish Sport Horse mare Castlefield Eclipse (Obos Quality x Furisto) that is owned by Jocelyne und Arturo Fasana
Martin Fuchs with the 10-year-old Westfalian Clooney 51 (Cornet Obolensky x Ferragamo) that is owned by SPCS/Gregoire Oberso
Steve Guerdat with the 15-year-old Selle Francis gelding Nino des Buissonnets (Kannan x Narcos II) that is owned by Urs E. Schwarzenbach
Janika Sprunger with the 10-year-old KWPN mare Bonne Chance CW (Baloubet Du Rouet x Cambridge) that is owned by Georg Kähny
“We will go to Rio de Janeiro with a strong team,” says the team leader Andy Kistler. Before submitting its proposal to Swiss Olympic and during several months selection phase, the Selection Committee chose the jumpers on the following criteria: consistency and results of the pair rider / horse, quality, experience and the current health of the horses and the experience of the championships, mental strength and team spirit of the riders and riders. The goal of the Swiss team is to win a team medal.
The team will be supervised on site by the head of Andy Kistler team Reichenburg (SZ), by coach Thomas Fuchs, Bietenholz (ZH) by the veterinarian Thomas Wagner team, Bern (BE), and the Head of the Equestrian Sport team Evelyne Niklaus (40) Scheuren (BE).
Steve Guerdat (34) is the Olympic champion and already participated in the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens. In addition, he was part of the brilliant Swiss team that won the bronze medal team at the 2008 Olympic Games in Hong Kong. For Janika Sprunger (29), Romain Duguet (35) and Martin Fuchs (24), it will be their first participation in the Olympics, while Paul Estermann (53) is a 2012 London Olympics veteran.
The summer 2016 Olympic Games will be held from August 5 to 21, 2016 in Rio de Janeiro (BRA). Show jumping will take place from 14 to 19 August at the Olympic equestrian center at Deodoro.
Olympic jumping horses will leave on August 5 truck towards Liège (BEL) where they will spend the night before flying on August 6 to cross the Atlantic and land in Rio during the night.
