The Netherlands experienced unprecedented success at the 2014 World Equestrian Games (WEG), winning its most medals ever. Even the FEI tweeted: “Orange is the new gold!” after the Orange legion’s numerous victories.

Like the other teams, the Dutch show jumping team was also determined to bring home a medal. Throughout the season, the goal of team coach Rob Ehrens and his jumper riders was clear: to win the team gold medal in Normandy. And that’s exactly what happened. Bravo to Jur Vrieling with the KWPN-approved stallion Bubalu VDL, Gerco Schröder with the KWPN-recognized stallion Glock’s London N.O.P., Maikel van der Vleuten with the KWPN-approved stallion VDL Groep Verdi TN N.O.P., and Jeroen Dubbeldam with Zenith SFN!

This last combination even advanced to the Final 4, the outcome of which we all know: an individual gold medal for Jeroen. Our Dutch team boasts the world’s best horses under the world’s best riders. What great advertising for equestrian Netherlands, and what great advertising for the Netherlands’ KWPN horse! Although Gerco Schröder was absent from the award ceremony due to the World Cup competition in Bordeaux, the rest of the team and coach Rob Ehrens were honored in the ring. Then they took their honor lap with their prize: a wheelbarrow full of apples.
