LGCT Ranking Leader Christian Ahlmann was on form during the afternoon of Saturday, June 25th at the Longines Global Champions Tour of Monaco.

Ahlmann won the 24,600 Prix Casino de Monte Carlo 1.45m/1.45 speed class aboard Caruso, riding a fast and careful round to finish over two seconds ahead of closest rival Marlon Zanotelli and Madame Butterfly.

With the big striding, 10-year-old Westfalian gelding (Cornet Obolensky x Primero)

The German rider was able to make full use of the tight arena, galloping at the fences and keeping a steady rhythm throughout. The pair was fourth to go in the order and set the pace early with their time of 56.87seconds

A few of the big names were caught out, with John Whitaker and Lord of Arabia, Bertram Allen, Rolf-Göran Bengtsson and Pius Schwizer all catching poles on the tricky course. Just six pairs jumped without penalty. Third place went to Pieter Devos and Equipharma Dax van d’Abdijhoeve, with the Belgian rider less than a second behind Zanotelli in 59.55 seconds. Germany’s Janne Friederike Meyer and Charlotta were 4th, with Lauren Hough and Street Hassle of the USA slotting into 5th place. Spain’s Gonzalo Anon Suarez filled out the top six aboard AD Amigo B.
