inishing in third place in the 2014 Rolex Grand Prix of Aachen, Marcus Ehning did not walk away completely empty handed. In addition to the €150,000 in prize money for third place, Marcus was presented with the Prize of the Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany. This award is the Style Trophy for the rider with the best style in the Rolex Grand Prix. It is named after the Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany Dr. Angela Merkel.
Renowned for his incredibly quiet riding style, Germany’s Marcus Ehning learned to ride aged seven and was very successful at the Young Rider championship level. The former World No.1 says: “At home we always had horses around and therefore it was easier to take up the sport. Show jumping is the most interesting part of equestrian sports, because you are able to ride quickly.”
Marcus has partnered two of the show jumping’s most talented and successful horses, For Pleasure and Sandro Boy. He is a German Nation’s Cup team regular and has won the FEI World Cup Finals on three occasions with three different horses. Marcus won a Olympic and World Championship Team Gold medal with For Pleasure and Plot Blue, and two European Team Gold medals with For Pleasure.
