Expectation Vs. Reality: What New Parenthood as an Equestrian Is Really Like

After baby is born, we return to normal, right? NOPE.

New parenthood is filled with looming questions. From the small (will my breeches ever fit again?) to the profound (who am I in this new existence?), we’re talking about the reality of our journeys becoming new moms.

In the last episode, you heard host Caroline Culberson and guest Kate O’Hara discuss the ins and outs of being a pregnant rider. Now, 9 months later, they’re discussing the realities of postpartum, getting back into the saddle, and navigating parenthood while balancing their careers.

Postpartum dealt its fair share of challenges. Caroline talks about her journey with postpartum anxiety/postpartum depression and how a life with horses prepared her for caring for a newborn (there are actually some similarities!).

Kate discusses her return to work after maternity leave and how she made the bittersweet decision to sell her mare and search for a new, more suitable equine partner.

They also return to the topic of body image and how it’s changed since they recorded their first episode, and how they both recovered from c-sections (one planned, one unplanned).
