Everything You've Ever Wanted To Know About Georgina Bloomberg

When you Google the name Georgina Bloomberg, one of the first results that pops up is her Wikipedia page – the subtitle: “Michael Bloomberg’s daughter.” But if you've seen how Georgina shines in the show ring, you know there’s so much more to her than that. Yes, Georgina is the daughter of former New York City Mayor, Michael Bloomberg, but when you get to know the professional show jumper, mother, and philanthropist, you start to understand what makes her so magical.

Not one to rely on her well-known surname, the 35-year-old New York City native is making a name for herself as one of the top equestrians on the elite circuit. Georgina initially made her mark in the junior ranks, winning the 2001 USET Talent Derby, and won two gold medals at the 2002 and 2003 FEI North American Young Rider Championships. Once she went professional, Georgina went on to make her World Cup Final debut in 2005 and was part of Team USA when they swept the Samsung Super League Nations Cup in La Baule, France. Taking a break from riding in 2010 due to major injuries, Georgina is now back in the saddle and looking better than ever with a top string of horses and a reinvigorated drive.

Now a mainstay competitor on the elite circuits, including the Longines Global Champions Tour, this badass mom (Hi Jasper!) is here to stay. Per MTV’s True Life motto, ‘you think you know, but you have no idea.’

It's time to get an inside look at the real Georgina Bloomberg.

Georgina is a published author
Not only a professional rider, Georgina boasts many other talents including the title of published author. As co-author - alongside Catherine Hapka - The A Circuit is a four-book series of young-adult novels. Based around the life of the daughter of a Wall Street billionaire, Tommi is looking to make a name for herself on the elite riding circuit despite her family’s deep pockets. Alongside her two riding friends, Zara and Kate, the novel dives into the complicated lives of teens traveling on the circuit. With the mixture of friendships, drama, and horses, Georgina’s novels are perfectly suited for young, horse-crazy girls.

Georgina is true New Yorker
Not only was Georgina born and raised in New York City, but she also obtained her degree in the Big Apple. In 2010, Georgina graduated from New York University’s Gallatin School of Individualized Study with a Bachelor’s Degree in Individualized Studies, with a concentration in Sports Business and Marketing, and Studio Arts. Not only did she attend NYU, but Georgia also studied at Parsons Fashion Design College in 2012. (Hello, Project Runway!)

Philanthropy is her passion
Besides her riding career and family, philanthropy is at the top of Georgina’s list of passions. From the EQUUS Foundation to the Humane Society of the United States to Animal Aid USA, Georgina is passionate about making a change for animals in need. Whether they’re pigs, dogs, cats, or horses - you name it - Georgina’s made it her mission to save them. Last year, Georgina and the Humane Society rescued 25 dogs from Puerto Rico to find their forever homes in the States. Fun fact: Georgina was awarded the Humane Society’s Compassion in Action Award for her tireless efforts to protect all animals. We're into it.

Not only is Georgina passionate about saving animals, but she’s also invested in making horse riding more accessible to all. In order to help riders from all backgrounds obtain the necessary clothing for riding, she founded The Rider’s Closet. The organization's mission is to provide equestrian apparel to various riding programs in need, including therapeutic riding, pony clubs, intercollegiate teams, and individual riders lacking the means to acquire the gear they need.

Georgina is a GCL Team owner
When you think of a professional sports team owner, the mind tends to wander to a powerful man, sitting in the owner's box at a packed stadium. But who says a powerful woman can’t take the (metaphorical) reins? Georgina is doing just that - literally and figuratively - as the newly minted owner of Global Champions League team, the New York Empire. A previous rider and owner of the Miami Glory, Georgina went back to her roots to represent the Empire State. Although the team is currently ranked 17th in the team standings for this season, there’s no doubt that the all-star lineup, which includes Scott Brash, Lillie Keenan, Cian O’Connor, and David Will, will make a comeback to the top. As the owner and team anchor, Georgina is changing the image of what it means to be a professional sports team owner.

Georgina is a proud supporter of Paralympic Dreams
A longtime friend of Paralympian and WEG veteran, Sydney Collier, Georgina recently announced her sponsorship in support of Sydney’s bid to compete at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympic Games. Sydney, a 7th place finisher at the Rio Olympic Games, will be a member of the American contingent headed to Tryon for the World Equestrian Games this fall where Georgina will be cheering on from the sidelines. In an effort to support Sydney, Georgina purchased Sydney’s 7-year-old Oldenburg gelding, Fherrigamo, and will cover all expenses leading up to the Olympic Games.

I am thrilled to announce my sponsorship of the amazing Sydney Collier as she starts her journey towards Tokyo for team USA. I am so proud of her determination and incredible spirit, and excited to be there rooting her on every step of the way. #teamusa 🇺🇸 Repost from @sydsparaquest: So excited and honored to share with everyone my sponsor Georgina Bloomberg! I feel so lucky that our paths crossed back in 2016. I am so grateful for Georgina's support and friendship as Fritz and I train towards earning our spot on the US Para Dressage team for the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics!!! 🇺🇸⏩🇯🇵🥇🥇🥇 @georginabloomberg Link: http://www.jumpmediallc.com/news/Georgina_Bloomberg_Announces_Sponsorship_of_Paralympian_Sydney_Collier-07-25-2018/1438/10001 (⛓Link in bio!!⛓)
