ith Wings, Karen Polle's 15-year-old KWPN gelding, is truly living up to his name this week. The duo jumped around the supersized 1.55m - 1.65m courses in Tryon, North Carolina with relative ease, leaving enough air to snap a selfie through between 'Wingy's' knees and top rails on many a jump.

On Thursday, Karen put down the round of her life, rocketing her and her long-time equine partner into an early lead in the individual competition. Going into Sunday's finals, Karen sits just within the top 25, earning the right to return to the big ring and show her stuff once again.

We popped over to talk with Karen after the pre-competition jog, chatting everything from her deep connection with her quirky horse to what it really feels like to be counted amongst the best 25 riders in the world.

Erin Lane, Managing Editor at Noëlle Floyd, occasionally gets back to her roots in the field for one of those interviews that just feels life-changing. After a long career in sports reporting and interviewing athletes as an on-air personality, the opportunity to dive deep into a story with an undeniable emotional impact is a welcome occurrence for the horse loving journalist. The chance to interview the inspiring and incomparable men of Heroes and Horses was, in Lane’s words, “an experience I’ll never forget.”
